Plant Genome Dynamics Analysis

Our laboratory conducts genetic and breeding research on sweetpotato. Using a Next Generation Sequencer (hereinafter referred to as NGS) that outputs a huge amount of DNA sequence data, we are working on the development of DNA markers and gene identification related to important agricultural traits such as disease and pest resistance and yield. We are also conducting gene expression analysis (Iso-Seq, RNA-seq analysis, etc.) to elucidate the mechanism of disease resistance, and also developing novel genotyping systems applicable to polyplpoid crop species.

Directory of Researchers

Sweet potato is characterized by hexaploid (2n=6x=90), its genetic analysis was very difficult. We have conducted large-scale genetic analysis of this crop species using NGS, and have succeeded in identifying gene regions related to pest and disease resistance. We are also working on the development of effective DNA markers for breeding.

In recent years, there have been cases of domestically grown superior varieties being illegally exported overseas and cultivated without permission. In order to protect valuable crop varieties, it is necessary to develop technology that can accurately identify varieties. We are developing a technology that can easily and accurately identify varieties of various crop species such as sweetpotato, apple, strawberry, citrus, and grapes.
