Analytical Chemistry

We are developing a high-performance separation and determination methods using a laser and simple chemical sensors using paper substrates. We are also developing analytical methods for vesicles released by biological cells, environmental pollutants, active components contained in food, and chemicals that serve as indicators of food degradation. We are also working on research on high-performance separation using capillary electrophoresis and new analytical methods with nanochannels.

A paper-based sensor for indole analysis in shrimp was developed. Indole is a substance that serves as an indicator of degradation of shrimp, and the amount of indole increases with storage time. We have developed a paper-based analysis device that can easily measure indole contained in shrimp. It was demonstrated that indole can be measured simply by extracting indole with an organic solvent and immersing the device in the extract. We found that the amount of indole in shrimp increased significantly after 11 days.
