Heteroatom Chemistry

Cyclotriphosphazene derivatives are used in applications such as flame retardants and hard coating agents. The P–Cl bonds in hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene (compound 1) are highly reactive and can be substituted with various nucleophiles such as aniline, phenol, and thiophenol. We have selectively synthesized compound 2, in which one of the chlorine atoms is replaced, and are investigating the selective synthesis of compounds 3, 4, and 5, which contain one, three, and five additional substituents, respectively.
